GDPR update

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the Data Protection Directive and was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens’ data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy.  It will become effective on May 25, 2018.


Keeping your data safe and increasing transparency are important to us, and we’re committed to these changes.

Dublin Cliffhangers take the protection of the data that we hold about you as a member seriously and will do everything possible to ensure that data is collected, stored, processed, maintained, cleansed and retained in accordance with current and future data protection legislation.


Personal information we collect

We collect a name, contact details (address, email and phone number) and date of birth of an individual as well as, so that they can become a member of your club.

The personal data held by the club is transferred to a electronic documents (hardcopies are shredded) and held securely on google drive encrypted and password protected.

Documents are only retained as long as the individual is the active member of the club (paid MI insurance and is Garda vetted though MI)


How we use your personal information

When you become a member of or renew your membership with Dublin Cliffhangers you will automatically be registered as a member of Mountaineering Ireland. We will provide Mountaineering Ireland with your personal data which they will use to enable access to an online portal for you ( -Login). Mountaineering Ireland will contact you to invite you to sign into and update your MountaineeringI reland details (which, among other things allows you to update your details and enter digital log of climbs/walks and avail of discounts on the online shop). It is vital, therefore, that a valid email address is given, so that you can ensure that your data is correct and so that you can set your own privacy settings.

Ways you can access, control, and correct your personal information


Obviously, the primary source of Personal Information held by a Mountaineering Ireland Club is its

Membership database. All registered members’ information is stored on the MI database and responsibility for this information is jointly held by the Mountaineering Ireland centrally.


We respect your right to access, correct, request deletion or request restriction of our usage of your personal information as required by applicable law. We also take steps to ensure that the personal information we collect is accurate and up to date.

  • We will provide you with a copy of your personal information in a structured, commonly used and machine readable format on request
  • If your personal information is incorrect or incomplete, you have the right to ask us to update it
  • You have the right to object to our processing of your personal information
  • You can also ask us to delete or restrict how we use your personal information
